How to get to the Eelhouse

Although the Eelhouse is not far from Central Station, it's always the question 'How to get to the Eelhouse from here'? Well there are two simple and excellent ways:

Walking
Walking to the Eelhouse is nice and will show you some beautiful canals and spots. The walk will take about 20 minutes. That is, if you know where to go. Otherwise you might get lost. We have directions for you if you decide to walk. Just ask for it.

Public Transport: "De Opstapper" or Stop&GO
"De Opstapper". A small bus that slowly will cross the old canals but will bring you within a few minutes near by the Eelhouse. A great way to start your stay in Amsterdam. "De Opstapper" runs every 10 minutes. Daily (except for Sundays) between 7.30AM en 6.30 PM. Opposite of the Central Station at the 'Prins Hendrikplantsoen' you can access this little bus.

Ask the driver to stop at the "Noorderkerk". There you have to leave the bus. From there it's simple: follow the street named "Noordermarkt" (after 75 meters this street is renamed into "Lindenstraat"). At the end of this Lindenstreet you will find the Eelhouse on the right hand side.

You need a "strippenkaart" for this bus. (nationale ticket for the public transportation). Strippenkaart is available at Central Station and at the Airport as well.

Taxi
There is a taxi service that will pick you up at the airport and take you to the Eel House for a flat fee. Please call +31 623927119 to arrange transportation and confirm cost.

If you take the train to Central Station you can take a taxi to the Eel House. We are not keen on the taxi drivers and taxis in front of the Central Station. But if you decide to take a taxi from Central Station then here we have some advice for you.

The taxiride from the central station will cost you approximately 7 Euros. Never pay more than 10 Euros!! Some taxi-drivers refuse to take you to the Eelhouse because it is such a short ride. You can choose any taxi you like, so just go to another taxidriver and ask him to bring you to the Eelhouse. We are sorry for this, but some taxidrivers in Amsterdam are very unprofessional.

The Neighbourhood Markets

The house is also just around the corner from the Saturday and Monday markets. The Saturday market is a typical food and farmers market, and Monday is the cloth market. Also nearby is the canal Prinsengracht, where you can enjoy the gay floats during gay pride the first weekend in August. The neighbourhood is very much like the Marais neighborhood in Paris and Greenwich Village in New York.
